Closing the Teach For America Blogging Gap

I am getting so nervous about the fact that I will be responsible for a classroom full of first graders. I have been working with kids for a long time, I’ve run daycare classrooms, coached both youth and college cheer teams, been a manager and tutored a lot. I am used to being THE BOSS, so I think I can run a classroom effectively, but, teaching reading? I am so worried that I won’t be good enough. Not to get all cheesy and corny, but my first grade teacher, Mrs. Porter instilled in me a lifelong love/obsession with reading and collecting knowledge. She was so important to my development and maybe I will feel more confident after institute, but I am so worried that I will screw up and effectively ruin the lives of a whole class!

Finding a place to live in DC was so stressful. I met the weirdest bunch of freaks who must be aliens posing as landlords, got stood up by a couple of real estate agents, worried that a landlord would be able to steal my identity from all the personal stuff on the applications, had applications…

beginnings

So, here am I at my last day of work, a few days from the first day of Induction in DC. I have all of these projects that I am supposed to finish, when I really need to make progress on my pre-institute work….once I leave this job, they can’t really do anything to me…
